Before I came to Argos, I worked at a much smaller retailer for 11 years. I came here because I wanted the chance to have an impact on a larger scale. I was also drawn to the company because there were so many exciting new initiatives in the pipeline, like clothing. In fact, I’m now the buying manager for clothing, overseeing strategy and day-to-day trading.
“I’ve done a lot of formal training and obtained qualifications with my previous employers. I’m much more interested in learning on-the-job now, and my role gives me ample opportunity for that. Working on business development projects has helped to develop my presentation skills and strategic thinking a great deal. I’ve also had the chance to work on HR projects, which have been especially useful for honing my relationship building skills.”
“I think my proudest achievement here was probably the launch of Cherokee, which is our new clothing range. It was about a year in the making, and we worked closely with marketing, legal, brand, customer insight and a whole host of other departments to get it off the ground. We sometimes doubted we’d get there, but we managed it in the end, and seeing all our hard work come together was extremely rewarding.”
