The Logistics Finance team is a team of financial professionals that drives business performance by effectively business partnering across the Logistics team. The team partners key stakeholders to make informed and effective commercial decisions and maximise value creation.
In this role you will business partner the Distribution Director and the Senior Distribution Operations Team to support the delivery of their objectives and provide insight and challenge to drive operational performance and influence decision making. The role will ensure the Logistics Financial Controller has both a short and long term view of pertinent issues concerning the Distribution Operation and identify any material risks and opportunities to the main business. You will lead and develop a pro-active team to control the management accounting and reporting of the Distribution cost base to ensure that all data is accurately recorded and that all current accounting conventions are being adhered to.
As Distribution Finance Manager your role will involve:
Support the Distribution Leadership Team by providing timely information, professional advice and interpretation of data to actively participate in the decision-making process within the Operation.
Evaluate both tactical and strategic Distribution projects, understanding how each will impact on the growth of the company and retrospectively ensure that the stated benefits of each project are delivered to the business.
Collaborate with Distribution colleagues (including Third Parties) to act on decisions to close gaps in actual financial performance vs. target.
Own the process of budgeting & forecasting for Distribution, obtaining mutual commitment and agreement and subsequently reviewing performance deviations and advising of required future corrective actions in review and ad-hoc team meetings.
Communicate effectively with the leadership team on a regular basis and provide appropriate challenge to ensure that budgetary and financial control is being applied, therefore securing the delivery of financial forecasts.
Responsible for managing relationships with relevant stakeholders and to ensure that plans are aligned across the business.
Understand the environment in which Distribution is based and ensure that any decisions taken within Distribution are carried out with full consideration of the financial impact upon Sainsbury’s Argos.
Recruit, retain and manage the development of the team ensuring that staff development meets both changing departmental and organisational objectives and priorities as well as the career aspirations of the individuals.
Share relevant tools and lessons learnt with Finance & Non-Finance stakeholders.
Your skills & experience will include:
Qualified accountant with ideally 3+ years post qualified experience.
Strong commercial acumen, curiosity beyond traditional finance boundaries and ability to understand key business drivers.
Ability to operate and influence effectively.
Assertive, challenging and confident with strong inter-personal skills.
Experience of working with, and presenting analytical results to non-finance users
Strong coaching and team leadership skills.
Strong excel, analytical and presentation skills, with keen attention to detail.
Experience in a large company environment, preferably retail (desired).
