Data Analyst

Our own delivery network is also breaking new ground. We are the only retailer in the UK who can deliver to 92% of UK postcodes within four hours.

In a nutshell:

We are looking for an exceptional Data analyst to join the Strategic Initiatives team.

The team generates ideas, identifies and delivers initiatives to support the Flywheel, the strategic priorities of the business, challenging assumptions and the status quo to ensure we have a relentless focus on improving our customers’ experience and profitability across our different shopping channels. The team works end to end across all key operational and development teams in the business- from Marketing to Supply chain, Digital to Stores, breaking down functional silos, to work on initiatives that don’t naturally sit with a single function, or that don’t have clear ownership or the necessary traction.

The Strategic Initiatives team is structured around four main areas:

Collections
Delivery & returns
Stock availability / Findability
Strategy/Profitability

Teams of Development Managers look after each of these missions to identify issues to fix or opportunities to develop within the wider business. Enabling them is a team of Data Analysts that provide insight and analysis to inform, shape or support actionable hypotheses.

What I need to do:

You will need to understand the context and background to a business question, determine suitable methodologies and tools to extract and analyse data from single or multiple sources to answer that question and support the Development Managers in using the data to create responses that clearly articulate insight and actions. Questions and analysis are very diverse reflecting the breadth of issues the team is tackling. These may include investigatory analysis (e.g What is the impact of lead times on the digital sites on collection rates, Should we hold stock centrally, and if so how much, to reduce out of stock rates?), trial tracking and assessment, automated report creation.

How I will succeed:

You will be a strong analyst, you will be adept at understanding the problems at the heart of business questions and able to determine and execute the most appropriate analytical methodologies to answer it. You will work collaboratively with the Development Manager and others to iterate and explore the data further, helping to communicate your findings clearly to a non-technical, senior leader, audience. You will be comfortable working with ambiguity, working at pace to leverage a network of relationships across the business to access and use multiple data sources and leverage the analytical teams in other parts of the business.

What I need to know:

To succeed in this role, you will need the following expertise:

Strong analytical skills, you will have experience in high paced business environments in turning, often vague, business questions into a piece of analysis that will answer the problems behind the original question.
A good ability at understanding a business question and selecting one or more analytical techniques and data sources to obtain as accurate and robust answer as possible.
Strong technical skillset across multiple platforms including Advanced Excel & Microsoft office skills, SQL, R, Python, visualisation software such as Tableau, PowerBI or Qlikview. Digital toolsets such as Adobe Reporting & Analytics or Google Analytics.
Experience of analysing large datasets, be familiar with common pitfalls in analysing data and how to apply rigorous methodologies to get to a robust answer.
A people person, confident and able to build long term relationships within the business.

What I need to show

To succeed in this role, you will be:

Astute and creative, with a logical and methodical approach to problem solving.
Passionate about not just data but finding the what, why and how.
An excellent communicator, credible and articulate, with excellent presentation and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable pulling the interesting story from complex datasets and presenting your findings in an engaging manner.
Able to demonstrate the ability to explain your findings to Senior levels within the organisation (up to Senior Manager level), good stakeholder management capability.
