Trading Finance Controller (Home & Stock)

Role Overview:

Lead a team of financial professionals to drive the business performance by effectively business partnering across the Commercial team. Provide a decision support service to ensure we partner our key stakeholders to make informed and effective commercial decisions to maximise the value created.

You will business partner the Trading Directors for Home to support the delivery of the Commercial objectives, providing insight and challenge to drive performance. Lead the Stock financial management agenda across all Commercial teams reporting into the Trading Director for Home. This includes ensuring controls are in place to effectively manage the trade-off decisions between cash-flow and profit optimisation. You will also be responsible for the forecasting and reporting of business stock levels across Sainsbury's GM&C and Argos, providing insight into opportunities to improve performance.

As Trading Finance Controller your role will involve:

Provide analytical support to the Commercial teams to help make sound commercial business decisions and improve business performance.
Provide the Commercial Director and the Senior Leadership Team with a signed-off sales and margin plan, and monitor performance, providing regular insight into the drivers of performance, and communicate any risks and opportunities. Provide advice on opportunities to maximise profitable growth.
Understand the markets in which the business operates and the specific impacts this will have on trading performance.
Share best practise on Finance Business Partnering with other Finance areas to build on examples of great business partnering.
Key linkage with the Asia Sourcing office, completing sourcing budgets in conjunction with the trading teams and providing commentary and insight on performance.
Support all key processes within trading – Final pricing, Sales, Stock and Margin Budgeting, Category Planning etc.
Ensure Controls are in place across all Commercial teams to review and effectively sign-off intake that is outside of commercial plans (i.e. Open-to-buy)
Produce insightful reporting to identify opportunities to improve cashflow with effective stock management – including over-stock reporting, and availability gaps.
Work with the Marketing finance team to support the commercial category plans, and ensure that the commercial and marketing plans are aligned.
Drive process and cross team working to deliver improvements to Margin and working capital, by improving terms and driving down stock-holding whilst not impacting sales.

Your skills & experience will include:

Qualified Finance Professional (ideally 5yrs+ PQE)
Prior experience working within similar senior finance role.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills in order to establish sound business partnering relationships and influence cross-functional stakeholders
Understand divers of business performance and the levers available to impact performance
Experience of working with and presenting analytical results to Non-Finance users
Sound coaching and team leadership and development skills
Strong analytical, excel and power point skills with attention to detail. SQL desirable but not required
Track record of value creation
Understand the principles of the Deloitte’s Four Faces of Finance model
