Analytics Insight Manager

Background

We are looking for an exceptional Analytics Insights Manager to join the End to End Strategic Initiatives team.

The team’s purpose is to challenge the business to do things better – shining a light on the way that things are done today, and using data to influence our priorities to ensure we continuously improve our customers’ experience and profitability across our different shopping channels.

The team generates and delivers customer and business opportunities and solves problems that support the strategic priorities of the business. The team works cross-functionally with key operational and development teams in the business on initiatives that don’t naturally sit within a single function, or that don’t have clear ownership or the necessary traction.

Key objectives for the team are:

Bring an independent, objective and data driven approach to drive value creation through improvements to customer journeys or colleague efficiency that deliver improved sales and profitability
Focus on long-term impact and value, but promote tactical change where appropriate
Create friction free customer journeys, fix pain points, eliminate drop out, increase conversion and make shopping simple and easy for our customers
Identify opportunities using data driven decisions to simplify process, reduce cost and improve profit within our operating model
Resolve inherent tensions between functions, align on root causes and solutions and drive accountability back into the functional teams

The Role

The End to End Strategic Initiatives team is structured around the customers’ main shopping missions with additional focus on profitability:

Teams of Development Managers look after each of these missions to identify issues to fix or opportunities to develop within the wider business. Enabling them is a team of Analysts that provides insight and analysis to inform, shape or support actionable hypothesis to fix customer pain points or improve business profitability.

What I need to do

Build a strong analytical team -

Organise the analytical team to turn around requests at speed whilst also enabling the team to get in-depth understanding of data systems and/or customer journeys.
Maintain an independent and objective perspective in assessing and evaluating performance of changes trialled or recommended by the team.
Provide and create opportunities for development of the analyst team- both within the analytical community and wider Argos.

Identify appropriate data across multiple sources (and systems) in the business -

Work with Development Managers to structure and prioritise problems.
Build a network of contacts in the business to access and leverage multiple data sources.

Provide focussed and robust analysis to support decision making -

Suggest appropriate analysis for ask papers, discussion papers, business cases, testing and evaluation.
Highlight critical assumptions and caveats that affect interpretation of results.

Translate data into insight to make decision making more data driven and fact based -

Communicate complex analysis in a simple way to a wide range of audiences.
Demonstrate financial and commercial acumen, able to balance customer and commercial needs, where they may be trade-offs.
Use insights to build business knowledge and identify and drive opportunities to improve our customers’ experience, sales and profitability.

Manage diverse stakeholders -

Understand customer propositions and the wider business context the Development Managers’ questions, to ensure that the analysis answers the most pertinent aspects.
Focus on the ‘so what’ to drive actionable insight.
Use visibility into all analysis to draw deeper insights across propositions/ customer journeys.
Leverage existing analysis to get to solutions and insights at pace.

How I will succeed

Development Managers are making business cases, identifying and prioritising opportunities for customer experience and profitability improvement based on data and facts.
While Development Managers make recommendations based on functional expertise, the insight team produces analysis that is also translated into insight that the business acts upon.
The team delivers insights at pace and leverages insights and data from different parts of the business.
Where data does not exist in one system, I am able to bring data from different parts of the business together to provide a complete answer.

What I need to know

Experience in extracting, manipulating and analysing large datasets.
An ability to expertly comment on and question data.
A strong ability to think strategically, develop hypothesis and conduct analysis to prove or disprove the hypothesis.
A passion for the business impact of analysis.
A proactive mindset and the desire to continually be searching for ways to improve the quality and actionability of analysis.
The ability to engage and influence senior colleagues to make decisions/ changes/ improvements based on the insight produced.
