The Reporting & Forecasting team provides a key link between the various business partnering and FP&A teams across the business to create budgets, forecasts and strategic plans as well as delivering corporate performance reporting e.g. weekly trading packs, periodic management accounts and investor relations analysis.
As Accounting & Reporting Manager, you will lead the financial and management reporting process for the Sainsbury’s General Merchandise and Clothing business units. You will manage the periodic close process through providing strong accounting control and integrity across both the P&L and balance sheet. The role will also provide financial reporting and analysis for consolidated Sainsbury’s General Merchandise and Clothing Sales, Margin, Stock and Central Costs. You will act as a key point of contact to the Finance Business Partners for co-ordination and consolidation of all elements of business planning.
In this exciting role, you will lead, coach and motivate a team of three individuals and act as a guardian of accurate and representative financial statements.
As Accounting & Reporting Manager, your main responsibilities will include:
Lead the accounting process to drive and execute standard period-end transactions and journals in the core finance system, working together with the business to drive completion of accurate financial statements, for review by the Reporting and Forecasting Controller and senior management.
Drive and lead the development of standardised reporting & insight for Business Partnering teams to support clear business decisions to either drive action / improved business performance in collaboration with the business.
Production of agreed standardised reporting to Business Partnering teams across weekly and period reporting timelines.
Lead the consolidation and executive review process for budgets and Latest View with the appropriate level of challenge to the finance business partners on significant movements for Sales, Margin, stock and central costs.
Manage the consolidation and reporting of periodic Non-Food Sales, Profit and Stock performance, as well as the annual budget and forecast.
Responsible for calculating and forecasting forex risk within the balance sheet and on future payments.
Ensure adequate control over depot stock adjustments.
Lead the balance sheet review process in accordance with SSL guidelines.
Manage the central cost reporting for Sainsbury’s General Merchandise and Clothing.
Lead and Support external audit preparation and or Internal Audit requirements.
Lead, coach and motivate the team through appropriate 1-2-1’s, coaching and cross-training to provide an environment where the team are encouraged to reach their potential.
Your skills & experience will include:
Qualified Finance Professional with proven experience at management level.
Possess strong technical accounting background.
Understand drivers of business performance and the levers available to impact performance.
Strong analytical ability with Excel & Access skills with high attention to detail.
Ability to operate and influence effectively at a senior finance level.
Assertive, challenging and confident with strong inter-personal skills.
Exposure of working with and presenting analytical results to Non-Finance audiences.
Strong coaching and team leadership ability.
