In a nutshell
This role will be responsible for the operation & development plans of our single customer view database within the insight function. They will be critical to ensuring that the platform is robust, coherent and operational. The role will ensure that the requirements of our analyst population, requirements from the reporting and tools team and by default the wider business population are met.
The role will be accountable for working with the Customer Data Manager to ensure that the data model is maintained and enhanced as new data feeds and features are correct. They will constantly look for new ways to improve the performance, increase automation and meet the users needs.
What I need to do
This role will reside within the Customer and Digital Data Management team will be responsible for managing, developing and maintaining our Single Customer View Data platform.
Specifically, the Database Manager role will focus on:
Working alongside a small team of database developers/managers, providing mentoring and development coaching.
Identifying areas of opportunity to improve the performance of the database, based on the current and anticipated usage.
Ensuring the Data Is coherent and is operational, where issues are found raising these instantly to the appropriate IT or third party teams. They will provide information to the users of the database in a timely manner informing them of any impacts to their analysis or reports.
Work with the IT and third party teams to add new data feeds. Manage the process from the perspective of the business to ensure these new data feeds are appropriately incorporated into the database.
Be the guardian of the logical data structure within the database, ensuring that this isn’t compromised and be the point of contact to analysts as to how an entity is created or changed.
Working with the Customer Data manager to ensure that the database adheres to all relevant guidelines and regulations.

You will be exceptionally organised and proactive in managing a pipeline of work and the successful operation of the platforms. You will communicate effectively with your business stakeholders and internal team. You will work collaboratively with your IT and third party colleagues to deliver a database platform that is coherent, robust, saleable and easy to use.
What I need to know
Exceptionally strong technically, have a background in managing complex databases within for high paced organisations.
Detailed understanding of development of data stores and data warehouses and associated toolsets
Detailed knowledge of data development in a big data (Hadoop ecosystem) and/or traditional data warehouses/toolsets using SQL or SQL based ETL capabilities. Experience in multiple data technologies including VBA, Excel, SAS
Excellent understanding of data administration and data management functions (collection, analysis, distribution etc.). Familiarity with multiple database and information system technologies.
Confident with data modelling techniques and structures ideally within retail environment.
Very familiar with Customer and Digital Datasets.
