The role of a Central Distribution Planning Manager is to work cross-functionally with the distribution centres and wider areas of the business to deliver a seamless customer experience by ensuring all distribution activity is planned for and any changes to the plan, process and service are clearly communicated and any challenges are advised and controlled appropriately.
What I need to do
Plan and execute key events such as Black Friday, Christmas and Jan Sale keeping all key stakeholders fully informed through regular and effective communication
Manage and coordinate changes to the transport schedule with Group Transport Planning, Store Ops, Central Replenishment and the Distribution Centres for key events as well as ad hoc requests
Monitor and control network assets including but not limited to cages, totes, pallets, etc ensuring optimal availability throughout the network and managing the transfer of assets through the network efficiently to minimise cost
Manage distribution service to new and closing stores acting as the key point of contact for distribution and keeping all relevant parties updated of plans and changes to plan through constant communication
Accountability for new range launch within distribution, planning the optimum flow routes of products through the network and ensuring the right products are delivered to the right stores in time for the new catalogue launch
Manage and coordinate the store to DC returns of stock for redistribution, supplier returns or clearance through normal routes
Support Head of Distribution Planning with any ad hoc requests and activities that support the distribution network and wider business
How I will succeed
The role holder has to be an effective communicator listening to complaints/opportunities from Store, Supply and Distribution alike and perform a as a mediator in a calm, professional and positive manner.
They have to take ownership of the issue and ensure the necessary response/solution is found and the relevant level of management is informed in Store, Supply or Distribution in line with current SLA’s
They must be forward thinking and proactive to produce and communicate plans and updates to key stakeholders ahead of key events
What I need to know
Of graduate calibre with demonstrable experience of delivering results in a central or operational role within distribution or supply chain
Understanding of distribution planning tools along with an appreciation of other business functions and their relationship with distribution.
Ability to develop commercial proposals and deliver cost effective solutions
Strong time management and ability to plan and prioritise
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills
PC Literate with experience using a range of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, PowerPoint
Working knowledge and understanding of warehouse operations.
First class analytical skills and strong attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and ability to influence at more senior levels.

Organised and able to manage multiple priorities and requests from different areas of the business
Able to interpret data from various sources to ensure accuracy and highlight anomalies to the appropriate people.

Ability to influence senior stakeholders in the business to ensure plans are produced and executed
