National Risk Solutions Manager

The Business Protection Team is part of Finance structure and provides proactive support to mitigate operational risk and reduce losses to help maximise profits. The Team focus on the provision of Insight, Assurance and Innovation whilst Protecting our brand, customers and colleagues from crime and the threat of crime.

Team:

The Transform Team are responsible for the identification, assessment and mitigation of current, strategic and emerging/new risks.

Bringing innovative thinking and flexible solutions with a focus on risk and loss to maximise Business profit. Providing an independent view of risks and identifying solutions to support commercial decision making and new Business Initiatives enhancing the customer shopping experience.

In a nutshell:

The role of National Risk Solutions Manager is critical to the identification of risks (tactical, strategic and emerging) across the business (‘Sainsbury’s Argos’ and Habitat) to reduce risk and loss, thereby helping to maximise profit.

The role is also critical to providing solutions for identified risks and ensuring that the Business Protection Team leads in protecting the business against future loss resulting from those risks.

The role directly manages a team of 6 (3x D1/C5 and 3x D2/C4).

The role is accountable for inspiring, leading and developing the Risk Solutions Team to deliver large projects across the business that focus on reducing, removing and/or mitigating risk and loss, adding value and enhancing the proposition for customers whilst improving efficiency.

Key accountabilities include:

defining the (Transform) Risk and Loss Solutions Strategy
promoting Risk Solution methodologies
engaging key stakeholders across the business up to exec level
budgeting and ultimate accountability for the successful delivery of all agreed projects

This role holder will be required to work strategically in partnership with Senior Stakeholders and Directors and have a comprehensive understanding of functional business plans. The role holder will:

directly influence the views applied to either known risk or unknown risk within those functional plans.
Lead the adoption of solutions provided by the Transform Team
engage with and work cross functionally within Group to ensure alignment of solutions provided where appropriate and commercially sound.

The role demands an ability to work with real autonomy providing advice and guidance, expertise and solutions in the moment and without referral within the remit of the role.

What I need to do:

Pro-actively develop and maintain a broad understanding of current tactical and strategic risks within the business as well as new and emerging risks (associated with the Company Business Plan and/or risks impacting the Retail marketplace.)
Define the (Business Protection) Risk and Loss Solutions Strategy, building in continuous improvement.
Agree in partnership with senior stake-holders the sign-off process, internal budgeting and support of agreed projects.
Allocate projects within the Transform team per resourcing requirement, scale of project and team capability.
Be accountable for budgetary responsibilities within the team, ensuring projects are budgeted appropriately.
Define the priorities of the Transform Team in line with overall Business Protection Team Plan.
Developing the programme reporting structure and the provision of insight and commentary to senior stakeholders and Directors on overall progress of all agreed projects.
Ensuring the business is kept aware of new and emerging risks within the remit of the Business Protection Team and bringing recommendations/solution proposals to the table.
Coaching and developing and the team to deliver the Transform programme including tools, techniques and behaviours, both hard and soft. Seeking out appropriate training for the team where required.
Responsible for promoting Transform methodologies, engaging key stakeholders across the business up to exec level on strategic, tactical and operational risk issues.
Be the key point of contact for business functions regarding risk and loss solutions, whether these be current, anticipated or emerging, providing advice and expertise.
Be responsible for the provision of solutions to risks identified at a business level.
Create an environment within the team that encourages a continuous improvement.

Inspire and lead the Transform team and be a credible role model with a pro-active and engaging leadership style and high visibility.
Identify key decision makers throughout the business and engage with and build relationships with those decision makers.
Use a broad range of influencing styles and techniques to engage both the Transform Team and business stakeholders in risk identification and solution adoption.
Apply a change mindset that actively looks to improve the ways things are done within the team and the business, being resilient when met with challenge.
Motivate and develop the Transform Team to be decisive and own solutions, whilst taking their stakeholders with them.
Operate with autonomy in a range of situations, covering complex and/or ambiguous issues requiring solutions at pace.
Be agile and adaptive in approach.
Understand technical and commercial dependencies and support the Transform Team to navigate the complexity these cause.

What I need to know:

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
The ability to cope under pressure and be high agility is essential in this role.
A proven ability of business partnering up to exec level.
Business and commercial knowledge and experience to advise, support and challenge commercial areas of the business regarding risk management.
Experience of recommending solutions that mitigate potential or known risk whilst maximise profit potential.
A proven track record of delivery across a Loss / Risk environment with a dependable output focus.
An ability to influence and take others with you, driving the right balance of support and challenge.
The necessary skills and experience to support the management of complex data, provide insight to senior stakeholders to realise opportunities to reduce, remove and mitigate risk and loss.
