As an Underwriter, you will underwrite store card applications submitted via various channels for Argos and provide support in relation to queries relating to the lending decisions made. You’ll analyse information provided at application stage to make appropriate lending decisions, and apply Credit Risk policy rules consistently and appropriately, to answer queries in relation to lending decisions from other areas of the business including stores and Customer Services.

We have 2 permanent positions and a 9-month fixed term contract available at our contact centre Widnes. You will work 35 hours per week between the hours of 8am-8pm of a Monday – Saturday and 9am-6pm on a Sunday.
As an Underwriter you will:
Utilise all available search tools to ensure that information not provided is included and considered
Multi-task to ensure that Underwriting referral queues are handled within appropriate timescales
Liaise with the Fraud team to ensure that any suspected fraudulent activity is highlighted and investigated
Deal with all customers, colleagues and stores in a professional and courteous manner
Review each application on its own merit using all information which is available
Accurately record all customer transactions / interactions, and in line with DPA guidelines, updating information where necessary
Manage complex queries, escalating to a team manager as and when required, to ensure the best customer outcome
As an Underwriter you will have:
Experience in the usage of Microsoft Word and Excel
Good communication skills – both verbal & written
Previous experience of working within Financial Services and a regulated environment
Previous working experience in a contact centre environment
Initiative when required and prioritise tasks within the department when working unsupervised
Confidence when decision making, using process flows and your own judgement from investigation
The ability to work strongly within a team, sharing knowledge and experience
The ability to identify vulnerability and expressions of dissatisfaction, and deal with any such situations in an empathetic manner
An understanding of the regulatory and legal requirements relevant to the role
