Supermarket Appraisal Finance Analyst

The Role

This role is responsible for providing business partnering support to the Head of Property Acquisitions & Development for Supermarket property. You would act as the guardian of the corporate Supermarket Investment Appraisal assumptions, investment hurdles, modelling integrity and sensitivity analysis criteria.

The Group Investment Appraisal team provides excellent investment appraisal and decision support service to the Sainsbury’s group for major property investments including new sites, acquisitions, divestments and refurbishments to ensure effective commercial investment decisions are taken. The team ultimately act as the guardian of the corporate Investment Appraisal assumptions, investment hurdles, modelling integrity, sensitivity analysis criteria and major post investment review analysis for the PLC Board. The team also leads financial support to the Argos Stores in Stores investment program including synergy tracking, and provides business partnering support to the Head of Property Acquisitions & Development.

As a Supermarket Appraisal Analyst, your main responsibilities will include:

Provide business partnering support to the Head of Property Acquisitions & Development for Supermarket property and providing Supermarket property appraisal support to the Investment Board.

Deliver timely investment appraisals for Supermarket property projects, applying and documenting appropriate assumptions, and highlighting key sensitivities with guidance from the Investment Appraisal Manager (SSL) including:

Investment Appraisals for refurbishments/refreshes (Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited & Argos)
Investment appraisals for Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Limited Supermarket stores (including new space investments)
Habitat advisory /model validation
Site appraisals for Group Acquisition / Disposals
Acting as the Guardian of investment appraisals assumptions and financial hurdles protecting sensitivities of investment opportunities
Owning the pipeline review process, outcomes and presentation to Board
Evaluating and testing of Pipeline impairment/accounting considerations
Evaluating and tracking asset disposals

Track and understand the financial impact of action plans, and help drive these through to completion.

Responsible for managing relationships with relevant stakeholders.

Share relevant tools and lesson learnt with the Business Partnering community.

What I need to know:

Be a Qualified Accountant - CIMA / ACCA / ACA or studying towards qualification.
Experience working within a similar level role in a large finance team.
Practical understanding and experience of strategic investment programs ideally within the retail industry.
Expertise of major property investment evaluations.
Ability to present complex information in a simplified manner.
Strong analytical skills, Excel & Access skills and attention to detail.
