Product Synergy Manager

Within the Sainsbury’s Argos Commercial function, we are looking for an Own Brand & Product Synergy Manager to join the team. Working closely with the Head of Product Synergy.

This is a brand-new role to the business, as, Sainsbury’s is committed to delivering significant Commercial synergies, as identified as part of the Argos acquisition case.

In this role, you will be Identifying and capturing product synergies and cost savings working with the relevant teams to implement across both businesses. You will be responsible and accountable for ensuring a successful implementation of Own Brands across Argos and Sainsbury’s which delivers strategically, commercially and are customer focused across all touch points.

What will you be doing?

Facilitate joint company category meetings to ensure there is product/range and sourcing alignment going forward
Capture all benefits and opportunities through product synergy workshops and feed into value chain
Capture and work to resolve any barriers to product synergy – seek answers cross functionally
Elevate barriers to senior managements (when appropriate)
Regularly communicate with all key stakeholders from both businesses – QA, Sourcing, Buying, Marketing
Provide analysis and reporting on a regular basis to key stakeholders
Team to be part of the pre-selection and selection agenda’s
Support commercial team with delivering the sourcing strategy
Participate in key business cross-functional projects as required
Create and implement a customer driven strategic vision for Own Brands and unbranded across both Argos and Sainsbury’s
Positioning Own Brand and unbranded within the market with a view on quality and price
Identify cost implementations for own brand roll out (i.e. packaging costs)
Identify key market trends/products and work with buying/PD/QA to ensure the product are reviewed as part of the own brand workshop gap analysis
Work across departments to unlock barriers and exploit opportunities
Management of the Own Brand product governance throughout the critical path for both Argos & Sainsbury’s
Producing product guidelines for all Own Brands by working with QA, Buying and Sourcing to ensure consistency, quality and adhering to brand pillars.
Responsible for Own Brand customer review ratings across all own brands and working with QA/Buyers to resolve any poor performers
Collaborate with the Own Brands marketing team to ensure there is a commercial lens on all own brand development
Facilitate product walkthroughs across all own brands, product benchmarking sessions versus competition, HK Events (all own brand product), Comparison product reviews and build vs competition etc.
Identify all unbranded and work with brand marketing to develop a brand(s) which can work across both Argos & Sainsbury’s
Manage the unbranded and reporting of own brands
Lead, develop and motivate a high performing team
Participate in key business cross-functional projects as required
Define timescales for implementation
Carry out other reasonable duties that are required to ensure the smooth running of the Company's operations.
Ensure effective stakeholder management and engagement across both Argos & Sainsbury’s

What do you need to know?

Preferably buying and product experience in a recognised blue chip multiple retailer
Experience of working for a retailer or experience in one or more product categories in General Merchandise.
An extensive understanding of the wider market and competition
An understanding of online buying
Proven negotiation skills
Financially astute and highly numerate
Good communicator with strong analytical ability
Customer focused
Demonstrable evidence of innovative thinking and provide solutions at pace
