Sainsbury’s Argos are currently looking for an experienced Seasonal and Outdoor Designer. You will design, develop and deliver designs and products across our seasonal categories including picnic-ware, outdoor living, seasonal events such as Easter and Halloween and not forgetting Christmas.
You will have an awareness of current and future lifestyle trends and an appetite for original design processes. Ideally you will have a good commercial understanding of creating products for indoor and outdoor use within the retail sector and an ability to design for different customer types and lifestyles.

What I need to do
Design and brief commercial and original product across homeware, seasonal and gifting products
Accountability for creativity within the team to share innovation and product trend, print and pattern. Identify key trends for each individual department/category, whilst contributing to the overall strategic design direction of the team.
Input into and support the delivery of the design strategy and how original commercial design is attributed to sales, margin and profit, working across several product categories.
Manage the development of the product from concept design to launch, liaising with product technologists and buyers ensuring that the critical path targets are met.
Set quality standards through continually benchmarking and monitoring performance of new product developments in the marketplace against our competitors.
To act as a coach and leader by managing, motivating and developing the team, regularly assessing individuals’ performance and giving feedback where appropriate.
Have a strong awareness of trend and can produce commercial and relevant trends each season for the Sainsbury’s customer reflecting print and pattern direction.
Manage direct product development with an oversees supply base.
Support the PR, Marketing and Media department with insights behind the creation of print and pattern.
What I need to know
University Degree within the creative industries study sector.
Recent relevant design experience (min 5 years industry experience within Seasonal or Hard - Goods Design)
Knowledge of brand management and a track record of delivering creativity with proven commercial results.
Relevant technical experience for given product range/ extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and working with suppliers.
Able to influence & communicate successfully across diverse audience.
Experience of team management.
Commercial awareness and proven creative ability.
Demonstrates a passion for the Sainsbury’s brand and clear focus on the customer.
Computer literate with the ability to use Photoshop and Illustrator to a high standard.
Knowledge of 3D CAD programs.
Critical path management.
