In-House Lawyer (Consumer Credit / Regulatory)

As an In-house Lawyer you will be providing effective and timely legal advice on a broad range of specialist and complex legal matters to support the business.

You will be joining Financial Services where our aim is to make life better every day for Argos customers. We help customers afford and protect what matters most, offering products and services including Credit, Warranties & Insurance.

As an In-house Lawyer you will be responsible for;

Advising the business on legal and regulatory requirements, specifically consumer credit regulation and the FCA Handbook.
Providing legal support by advising the Business on how its products, processes and systems meet legal and regulatory requirements.
Drafting and advising on customer-facing terms and conditions.
Taking the time to understand the relevant business areas to be able to provide targeted and relevant advice.
Working collaboratively with colleagues and business stakeholders to ensure our products and business processes provide compliant and good outcomes for customers and our business.
Assembling research and producing clear, accurate findings.
Analysing legal and commercial issues in detail and be able to explain complex issues.
Drafting advice, product terms, legal correspondence and other complex documents in plain English with minimal or no supervision.

As an In-house Lawyer you will have;

A Solicitor qualification.
A detailed working knowledge and experience of English contract law in a regulated Financial Services context.
Experience of consumer credit (either in private practice or in-house) law.
A deep understanding of the retail banking world, products and services, and related main legal developments/issues relating to the role.

Good time management and IT skills.
Excellent team player skills with an ability to work closely with others to deliver results.
A proven track record of working on your own initiative, with the ability to introduce fresh thinking to the role and the wider team.
An ability to think and reason logically.

Exceptional communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively with anyone in any environment, translating complex or technical issues to meet the audience's competency level.
